ArtRio – Rio de Janeiro International Art Fair will shake the city's art sector on September 08-11

On its first edition, event must present 80 galleries – national and international

During September 08 - 11, all the lights will be focused on Rio de Janeiro. More precisely in the port zone, where the first edition of ArtRio-Rio de Janeiro International Art Fair will take place. The event will contribute to the art sector, the economy and the country's tourism with the participation of 80 well known art galleries – national and international.

Created by Elisangela Valadares and Brenda Valansi Osorio, partners at the agency Bex Feiras e Eventos Culturais, ArtRio starts already big. Due to the good moment of the Brazilian economy, important international galleries confirmed its participation. Among them is the Australian Tristian Koenig, presenting for the first time works from John Kleckner and Riccardo Crespi, from Milan, bringing Libia Castro & Ólafur Ólafsson – the duo represented Iceland at the Venice´s Bienalle Art Festival.

"We want to include Rio de Janeiro in the international art market and develop a cultural exchange, making ArtRio an important event to Brazilian galleries and also galleria from other countries" say the partners Brenda and Elisangela.

ArtRio will happen in two pavilions of Píer Mauá as well as in an external area. From Rio de Janeiro will participate the galleries A Gentil Carioca, Anita Schwartz, Silvia Cintra + Box 4, HAP, Mercedez Viegas, Pinakotheke, among others. From São Paulo, galleries Vermelho, Mendes Wood, Marília Razuk are confirmed. The city of Belo Horizonte will be represented by galleries Quadrum, Lemos de Sá, AM and Celma Albuquerque; and Recife will be represented by Amparo Sessenta gallery.

Among international galleries that will be present, Mario Sequeira, from Portugal; Crone, from Germany; Bendana-Pinel Art Contemporain, from France; and Horrach Moya, from Spain. More than 40 galleries from abroad will be participating in the event.

The event is expecting around 20 thousand visitors, between art collectors, marchands, journalists and art lovers. They will have the chance to see and also buy different formats of modern and contemporary art, including painting, sculptures, installations, photography and video.

One of the fair highlights will be the Solo Projects, coordinated by Julieta Gonzalez and Pablo Leon de La Barra - an area especially built to exhibit works of a selected team of 15 international artists chosen by the duo.

Co-curator of Latin American Art of the Tate Modern, from London, Julieta is one of the great names of the art segment nowadays, with projects developed to Alejandro Otero Museum, in Caracas, and Whitney Museum, New York. Pablo Leon is a gallery owner, architect, editor, Art consultant and one of the most important persons of the Art market in London.

Guided tours, special area to Art publications, classes and debates will also happen on the event official program.

ArtRio objectives:

  • Make the fair be recognized as an important event of contemporary art, introducing Rio de Janeiro in the global art market;
  • Through classes and debates, stimulate the work of new artists and give orientation / guidance to new art collector;
  • Promote the inclusion through the art, programming guided tours to schools with the presence of artists, art critics and curators;
  • Attract new investments to the city, increasing Rio de Janeiro visibility as city forming new artists and stimulating the local art market;
  • Promote the cultural exchange inside the country and also connecting Brazilian artists to other countries and markets;
  • Make art accessible to all publics.

Environmental Responsability:

  • Reduce the environmental impact while choosing recycled material on the event production (including furniture, certified wood, alternative material)
  • Besides being an important chance to promote new artists work, ArtRio will also promote art in an organized and educational way to kids and young people;
  • Guided tour to schools, universities and courses;
  • Guided tours to public over 60 years old and public with special needs.

ArtRio has among its objectives strength Rio de Janeiro city as an important center of contemporary art, including the city in the arts market route. It will also stimulate the launch of new artists and give guidance no new Art collectors. The main goal will be give a new dimension to Art, making it accessible to all publics.

PROGRAM:

General Program – Exhibit of works from modern vanguard to contemporary art. Galleries with more than five years operating and well known at the market will participate.

ArtRio 30 – Galleries with focus in contemporary art and with more than five years of operation.

ArtRio Box – Young galleries, with the maximun of five years of operation.

ArtRio Video – Area especially developed for the screening of art videos, with curatorship of Alberto Saraiva.

Solo Project – Special program of Julieta Gonzalez, presenting 15 projects from international artists.

Coordinating the ArtRio are two well known specialists of the Brazilian art market. Gallery owner for over 15 years, Elisangela Valadares was curator of several exhibits and publications, besides her work as a consultant for art buyer and art collectors. Frequently visiting art fairs around the world. Brenda Valansi Osorio is an artist and founder of CRANIO, innovative area dedicated to Arts and Culture, combining visual arts, debates, courses and exhibitions. ArtRio is a production of Bex Feiras e Eventos Culturais.
